Namaka Public School (NPS) is celebrating a significant achievement after being awarded the title of the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024 by the Ministry of Education. This accolade has instilled a renewed sense of drive in the school as it prepares to compete for a regional award.
Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed immense pride in this recognition, stating that the school aims to be recognized as the best in the South Pacific. He emphasized that this award has motivated the school management and teachers to enhance their teaching strategies across all areas of learning. The award has also created opportunities to further improve the learning environment, encouraging collaboration among stakeholders to provide a comprehensive educational experience for every student.
Established in 1962, Namaka Public School is a co-educational institution that serves a diverse population of students, including those from nearby areas like Lautoka and Korovuto. The school boasts a vibrant sports program, excelling in various disciplines such as netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. Notably, 36 of its students participated in this year’s national athletics games.
With a student body of 1,347 and 33 teachers, NPS has demonstrated impressive academic performance with 85% of its 176 Year 8 candidates passing their exams. Many successful students have secured places in prominent secondary schools for the upcoming academic year.
Recent upgrades to the school’s infrastructure include a $400,000 multi-purpose hall, which is utilized for various school events and also serves as a source of income through rentals. Other enhancements involve the construction of a walkway, a mini theatre, and the integration of technology in classrooms to enrich the learning experience. The school also features an international-sized playground for both soccer and rugby.
Looking towards the future, Namaka Public School has set ambitious goals with a 10-year master plan that includes building 15 new classrooms, a science lab, library, washrooms, and even a swimming pool, underscoring its commitment to providing quality education.
