Namaka Public School (NPS) has recently received significant recognition by being awarded the title of the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024 by the Ministry of Education. This accolade has not only honored the school but has also bolstered its aspirations for a broader regional award.
Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed pride in their achievement, stating the award serves as motivation for the school management and teachers to strive for excellence in teaching and learning processes. He emphasized that the recognition has fostered a commitment to enhancing the educational environment and collaboration with stakeholders to deliver holistic education to all students.
Established in 1962 and managed by local community members, NPS has been a pillar of education for both local and distant students, accommodating a diverse, co-educational student body. With a current enrollment of 1,347 students and 33 teachers, the school has a strong focus not only on academics but also on extracurricular activities. NPS has a successful track record in various sports, including netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket, with students participating in national events.
This year, 176 students are set to sit for the Fiji Year 8 examination, and an impressive 85% are expected to pass. Successful students are transitioning to prominent secondary schools, further highlighting the school’s commitment to quality education.
NPS has recently enhanced its facilities with a $400,000 multipurpose hall, which is integral to school programs and serves as a rental income source. Additional infrastructure improvements include a walkway, mini theatre, and IT advancements in classrooms, all aimed at enriching the learning experience. The school also boasts an international-sized playground designed for soccer and rugby.
Looking to the future, NPS has devised a 10-year master plan to further develop the school by adding 15 new classrooms, a science lab, library, washrooms, and a swimming pool.
This recognition is not only a testament to the hard work of the staff and students at Namaka Public School but also sets a promising foundation for ongoing improvements and community engagement. The school’s journey reflects a positive trend in developing educational initiatives that benefit both students and the surrounding community. With continued dedication, NPS is on a path towards making a lasting impact in the South Pacific educational landscape.
