Namaka Public School (NPS) recently achieved the prestigious title of the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024, awarded by the Ministry of Education. This significant recognition has energized the school’s aspirations for a regional award, as expressed by head teacher Arvin Kumar, who stated the honor fills him with pride and motivates the school community to strive for excellence in education.

Mr. Kumar emphasized that this accolade has spurred the management and teachers to focus on delivering high-quality education across all facets of teaching and learning. He articulated a vision for enhancing the learning environment and encouraging collaborative efforts among stakeholders to provide a well-rounded education for their students.

Established in 1962, NPS serves a diverse student body, with 1,347 students and 33 teachers, drawing children from nearby areas, including Lautoka and Korovuto. The school boasts a robust extracurricular program, participating and excelling in various sports such as netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. Notably, 36 students represented Nadi in the recent national athletics games, and swimming has recently been introduced for kindergarten students.

NPS is also proud of its academic success, with an impressive 85% pass rate for 176 Year 8 students taking the Fiji Year 8 examination. Many of these students have secured placements in renowned secondary schools for their upcoming academic pursuits.

In terms of infrastructure, the school has invested in enhancing its facilities, including a newly constructed $400,000 multi-purpose hall, a walkway, a mini theater, and improved IT resources for classrooms. Looking ahead, NPS has formulated a 10-year master plan that includes the construction of 15 new classrooms, a science lab, a library, washrooms, and a swimming pool to further enrich the educational experience.

This achievement and future planning demonstrate Namaka Public School’s commitment to fostering a vibrant learning community, setting a strong example for educational excellence in the region.

Overall, the award not only recognizes the hard work of the NPS community but also positions the school as a leader in primary education, paving the way for continuous improvement and achievement in the South Pacific.
