Namaka Public School (NPS) has gained recognition for its excellence in education by winning the Best Primary School award for the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024, an achievement celebrated by the Ministry of Education. The school, which has a rich history since its establishment in 1962, is managed by local community members and serves a diverse student body.
Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed immense pride in receiving this accolade, stating that it motivates the faculty to continue enhancing the educational experience for their students. Kumar emphasized the importance of working collaboratively with stakeholders to provide a holistic education and improve the learning environment.
The school currently caters to 1,347 students with a dedicated team of 33 teachers, along with 140 kindergarten students taught by eight teachers. A notable achievement this year saw 85 percent of students passing their Fiji Year 8 examinations, with many attending reputable secondary schools like Ratu Kadavulevu School and Queen Victoria School.
NPS also stands out in sports, participating in various competitions including netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. This year, thirty-six students contributed to the Nadi athletics team at the national games, and the school recently introduced swimming lessons for its kindergarten students.
Significant infrastructure upgrades have been made, including a $400,000 multipurpose hall that not only supports school activities but also serves as a rental opportunity for income generation. Other enhancements include a walkway, a mini theatre, advanced IT facilities, and an international-sized playground for soccer and rugby.
Looking ahead, NPS has developed an ambitious 10-year master plan to construct 15 new classrooms, a science lab, library, restrooms, and a swimming pool, indicating a strong commitment to fostering a comprehensive educational environment.
In summary, the award has not only honored Namaka Public School’s achievements but has also set the stage for future developments and aspirations, making it an exciting time for students, staff, and the greater community involved. This optimistic trajectory reflects the school’s dedication to nurturing excellence and broader opportunities for its students.
