Namaka Public School (NPS) has received a significant boost in its pursuit of regional recognition after being honored with the Best Primary School award for the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for the year 2024 by the Ministry of Education. The award, presented last Friday, serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the school’s staff and management.

Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed pride in this recognition, emphasizing the school’s ambition to become the best in the South Pacific. He noted that this accolade has motivated both management and educators to enhance their planning and delivery of quality education across all key performance areas. This renewed focus aims to create an improved learning environment, encouraging collaboration among stakeholders to provide comprehensive education to all students.

Established in 1962, NPS is a multi-racial co-educational institution that educates students from diverse backgrounds, including those traveling from distant areas such as Lautoka and Korovuto. Currently, the school has a student enrollment of 1,347 and employs 33 teachers, with 140 students in kindergarten and 176 preparing for the Fiji Year 8 examinations, where an impressive 85% passed this year.

In addition to academic achievements, NPS has a strong record in extracurricular activities, having participated and excelled in various sports, including netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, and cricket. Notably, 36 students represented Nadi in this year’s national athletics games, and swimming has been introduced for kindergarten students.

Recently, the school has enhanced its facilities with the construction of a $400,000 multipurpose hall, which serves both educational and community functions. Furthermore, improvements such as a walkway, a mini theater, and advanced IT resources in classrooms have been implemented to facilitate engaging lessons. The school also boasts an international-sized playground for soccer and rugby, and a 10-year master plan is in place for future developments, including additional classrooms, a science lab, a library, washrooms, and a swimming pool.

This recognition and the ongoing infrastructure improvements highlight NPS’s commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering a supportive environment for its students. With a clear vision and a dedicated team, the future looks promising for Namaka Public School as it works towards becoming a leading educational institution in the region.

Overall, this award not only uplifts the school’s reputation but also paves the way for further advancements in educational quality and student success.
