Namaka Public School (NPS) has received recognition for its excellence by achieving the title of the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024, as awarded by the Ministry of Education last Friday. This honor has energized the school’s commitment to compete for the regional award.

Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed pride and honor in receiving the accolade, noting the school’s aspiration to be recognized as the best in the South Pacific. He emphasized that this acknowledgment motivates the school administration and teachers to enhance their planning and teaching strategies, aiming for a better learning environment and collaboration with stakeholders to deliver a comprehensive education to students.

Founded in 1962, Namaka Public School is a multi-cultural and co-educational institution, catering to students from its immediate community as well as from the Lautoka and Korovuto areas.

This academic year has been notable for NPS, as its involvement in various sports—such as netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket—has yielded impressive results. The school contributed 36 students to the Nadi athletics team for national competitions and has recently introduced swimming for kindergarten students.

Currently, NPS enrolls 1,347 students and employs 33 teachers, including 140 kindergarten students taught by eight educators. A noteworthy 85 percent of Year 8 students passed their examinations, with high-achieving students transitioning to reputable secondary institutions for the upcoming academic year.

The school has made significant infrastructure improvements, including the construction of a $400,000 multipurpose hall that serves multiple functions and generates additional funding through rentals. Other recent developments include a walkway, a mini theatre, enhanced IT facilities, and an international-sized playground for sports.

Looking ahead, NPS has a comprehensive 10-year master plan to build 15 new classrooms, a science lab, a library, washrooms, and a swimming pool, showcasing its commitment to ongoing improvement and development.

With this recognition and ongoing projects, Namaka Public School is not just celebrating past achievements but laying a strong foundation for the future, aiming to provide an enriching educational experience for all its students.

This story illustrates the positive impact of recognition in the educational sector, as it inspires schools to elevate their standards and continuously improve the quality of education they offer.
