A new and promising initiative has been launched for student athletes in the Nakasi corridor with the formation of the Naikaciwa Athletics Club. Officially registered in 2023, the club aims to unite primary and secondary schools in the Nakasi area and create a dedicated platform for nurturing athletic talent.

Victoriano Raikaisau, one of the club’s coaches, shared insights into its inception and goals. “For the past four years, we have been working to create a club that gathers schools under one banner to nurture young athletic talent. We noticed a gap as many renowned clubs do not represent the Nausori region. Our club now fills that void,” Raikaisau explained.

Currently, the Naikaciwa Athletics Club comprises 30 to 40 athletes, with 15 to 20 regularly attending training sessions. These young athletes are drawn from several local schools, including Nakasi Primary, St. Joseph the Worker, Bainivalu, Davuilewu, Wanibuku Primary, and secondary institutions such as Bawani Dayal and Nashinu Muslim, with a significant number from Nakasi High School.

Emphasizing the club’s community-focused and inclusive nature, Raikaisau noted, “We are not charging fees; athletes just bring a water bottle and come ready to train. Parents have been very supportive, encouraging their children to attend sessions regularly.” This supportive environment has fostered commitment and enthusiasm among participants.

Since its formation, the Naikaciwa Athletics Club has enjoyed remarkable success, particularly at national competitions like the Coca-Cola Games. In 2022, the club distinguished itself by defeating established rivals, including Lelean Morial School, securing victory in the Triple N zone. Their achievements continued in 2023, where club athletes earned nine medals and finished sixth overall at the Coca-Cola Games. “That was a big achievement for us. We thank God, the parents, the management, and all who believe in our programme,” Raikaisau expressed with pride.

Looking ahead, the club has ambitious goals set for the 2026 Coca-Cola Games and beyond, inviting young athletes in the Nakasi corridor to join the initiative. “If you don’t have a coach or a place to train, the club is open to you. Come to Nakasi High or contact us. We are here to develop your fitness and athletic skills,” he encouraged.

The establishment of the Naikaciwa Athletics Club marks a significant advancement in fostering grassroots talent within the Nakasi corridor, offering young athletes a valuable pathway to excel in both local and national sporting arenas. With the community’s support and commitment to nurturing talent, the future appears bright for aspiring athletes in the region.
