The focus on discipline has been paramount for Naitasiri Secondary School’s under-19 rugby team this week as they prepare for their national quarter-final match against Tailevu North College in the Vodafone Deans competition today. Following a decisive 24-8 victory over Bua Central College last weekend, the team has been hard at work rectifying previous mistakes and building a strong foundation for success.

Head coach Rusiate Talebulamai has highlighted discipline as a critical area for improvement after the team’s recent performance, which included two yellow cards. “The preparations are going well; the boys are very focused on the match on Saturday,” Talebulamai expressed confidence. The team is keenly aware of the challenges posed by Tailevu North College, having faced them before, and is committed to giving their best effort in the upcoming match.

With a determination to surpass their previous year’s performance—where they fell short in the semi-finals against Queen Victoria School—Naitasiri is motivated to make it to the finals this year. “We’re thinking differently and aiming to reach the final,” said Talebulamai, emphasizing their readiness to tackle the increasing competition in Fiji’s secondary school rugby scene.

Talebulamai has called on parents and supporters to come in numbers to back the team, creating a vibrant atmosphere to uplift the players before their showdown at King Charles Park in Nadi at 12pm today.

The positive spirit within the team reflects not only their ambition but also the unity and support fostered by the local community, reminiscent of the camaraderie seen in the journeys of other local teams aiming for success in this prestigious competition.

As Naitasiri Secondary School continues to cultivate its winning legacy, the stage is set for an exciting match that promises to showcase the talents and dedication of the young athletes involved.
