Naitasiri Union Demands Fair Share of Rugby Gate Takings

The Fiji Rugby Union has yet to fully compensate the Naitasiri Rugby Union for the gate revenues from local rugby tournaments held this year. Peceli Rinakama, the NRU president, disclosed that they were expecting to receive $25,000 from the FRU in relation to the Skipper Cup and the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy but have only received $9,000 so far.

Rinakama stated, “We were anticipating to receive $25,000 from the gate takings, but unfortunately, we have only received $8,000.” He clarified that they were expecting additional earnings from the Farebrother matches against the Lautoka and Nadroga teams, which took place at Churchill Park and Ratu Cakobau Park earlier this year.

In reality, they received just over $1,000 initially, and thanks to the persistence of the general secretary and treasurer, the FRU was able to provide an additional $8,000 last week. As the president, Rinakama emphasized the need for transparent and efficient management of rugby operations.

Inquiries about Rinakama’s statements were directed to FRU interim board chairman Peter Mazey, but no response was received by the time this report was published. Naitasiri is the current champion of the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy, having defeated Nadroga 11-10 in June of this year.
