Naitasiri Secondary School is gearing up for a challenging season as they defend their championship title in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition for the under-19 grade. Having demonstrated strength by defeating Ba Provincial in last year’s final, the team enters the new season with heightened expectations from both themselves and their supporters.
Head coach Rusiate Talebula emphasized the importance of returning to fundamental training practices to build cohesion within the team. “For this year, it is not a very easy year for us, because we need to hold on to the trophy again this year. At the beginning, we tried to back to step number one, introducing the basics to the students and getting them together,” he noted. The school’s theme for the year, “Together we rise,” encapsulates their commitment to teamwork and excellence.
Naitasiri kicked off their 2025 campaign in impressive fashion, securing a 26-8 victory against Bua Secondary School at Saint Marcelin Primary School Grounds in Suva. As they look ahead, Talebula stated that every game will be approached with seriousness, treating each match like it’s their last chance to prove themselves.
This season’s rivalry is expected to be fierce, with numerous teams, including Natabua High School, demonstrating strong performances in different categories, showcasing the spirited competition within Fiji’s school rugby system. The community has rallied behind its teams, fostering a sense of unity and support which plays a critical role in the development of young athletes.
