Seventeen students from Naitasiri Secondary School who were involved in a road accident on Monday will receive a compassionate pass once the required reports and recommendations from the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) of Naitasiri and the Head of School (HoS) are submitted. This confirmation was provided by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro.

The incident occurred at the Saumakia Junction in Navuniyasi Village, where the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go off the road. The injured students were promptly taken to Vunidawa Hospital for medical attention. While investigations are ongoing, Mr. Radrodro stated that no specific details regarding the accident’s cause can be disclosed at this time.

Additionally, the Minister announced that students would be encouraged to submit claims to the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF). With the support of the Head of School, affected students and their guardians will receive assistance in filing claims based on police and medical reports.

Mr. Radrodro urged the community—parents, guardians, teachers, and students—to prioritize safety to avert similar incidents in the future. He emphasized that this tragic event is a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the resilience of the community. The ministry reaffirms its support for the students, their families, and all affected individuals during this challenging time.

Overall, while the accident was unfortunate, the swift response from authorities and the emphasis on community support is a positive takeaway, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safety in preventing future incidents.
