Emergency restoration efforts at the Nailawa crossing in Tailevu have successfully concluded, re-establishing access for hundreds of residents following significant damage caused by heavy rainfall. The approach to the crossing was washed away, leaving villagers with no choice but to navigate waist-deep water during a challenging period.
Public Works, Transport, and Meteorological Services Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau addressed concerns raised about the struggles faced by the local community. He indicated that work along the Dawasamu corridor is on track and has instructed the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to conduct thorough inspections and necessary repairs from the QVS area to Dawasamu.
The minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that the repairs are completed effectively, securely linking to Kings Road, with continued assessments and strengthening efforts ongoing. The FRA had mobilized emergency teams promptly after the approach was compromised, underscoring their commitment to restoring access rapidly.
In an official statement, the FRA noted that emergency restoration work had commenced on the Nailawa Crossing approach, assuring residents that a team was actively working to ensure safe passage for commuters. After completing the urgent repairs, the authority confirmed that the crossing is safe for use once again.
