Fiji-born winger Jone Naikabula had a standout performance in Japan’s 55-20 victory against Canada in the Pacific Nations Cup opener held in Vancouver on Monday. He showcased his speed by running over 40 meters without opposition to score a remarkable try for the Cherry Blossoms. Naikabula also played a key role in setting up several other tries during the match.
Lock Warner Dearns was named Man of the Match, contributing two tries to the resounding win, while Japan’s other scorers included Tomoki Osada, Seungsin Lee, Dylan Riley, Kanji Shimokawa, and Malo Tuitama.
In the upcoming matches of Round 2 of the Pacific Nations Cup, Samoa, fresh from a 42-16 loss to Fiji in Suva last week, will host Tonga at Apia Park on Saturday. Canada will take on the USA Eagles on Monday. The Flying Fijians will have a bye in Round 2 and are set to travel to Teufaiva Park in Nukualofa next week to face Tonga.
