Women from the Nadroga-Navosa province have successfully raised $94,894 to support the construction of a student hostel near the Fiji National University (FNU) campus in Lautoka. This impressive fundraising effort took place during the province’s “Juvou Day” event held recently at Yako Village, organized by the ‘Soqosoqo Vakamarama ni Yasana o Nadroga Navosa’.

Spokesperson Siteri Bulouvere confirmed that land has already been secured for the hostel, situated directly opposite the FNU Lautoka campus. The initiative aims to provide safe and secure accommodation for youths pursuing tertiary and secondary education, alleviating their reliance on outside shelters.

“This contribution reflects our commitment to the future of our children and young generations,” Ms. Bulouvere stated, emphasizing the importance of education in fostering a secure environment for learning. The final contribution towards the fundraising campaign, amounting to $13,388, was made by traditional leader Na Turaga Nakaria, which helped achieve the grand total of $94,894.

This effort mirrors other ongoing educational initiatives in Fiji aimed at enhancing student support and access to education. Similar undertakings include the launch of the FNU Foundation, which seeks to support disadvantaged students by providing scholarships and essential resources. Such developments indicate a growing recognition of the need for collective community engagement to bolster educational opportunities and ensure that every child has the chance to pursue their academic ambitions.

This collective action from the women of Nadroga-Navosa serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the vital role of community support in promoting educational outcomes for future generations in Fiji. Their dedication is a testament to the power of grassroots initiatives in shaping a brighter future for the youth.
