Students in the Highlands of Navosa are set to benefit from renewed opportunities for secondary education with the reopening of the Nadroga Navosa Provincial High School. Last week, the Ministry of Education marked a significant milestone for families in the district by restoring access to secondary education, which has faced disruptions over the years.

The school will commence with Year 9 classes, addressing long-standing issues associated with distance, transportation costs, and limited placement options in secondary schools. According to the ministry’s statement, the institution will provide a crucial educational pathway for students from nearby primary schools such as Naidovi Primary School, Naidiri Khalsa Primary School, Nadroga Sangam Primary School, Cuvu District School, and Nadromai District School.

The reopening also reconnects the school to its legacy. Initially founded as Tavuki Mission School under the Methodist Church of Fiji, it evolved into the Nadroga Navosa Provincial High School, catering to students from Navosa and surrounding islands before shifting to a technical education model.

During the commissioning ceremony, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro emphasized the Government’s commitment to ensuring equity, access, and continuity in education. He outlined supportive initiatives like the $200 Back-to-School Assistance and the eTransport benefit, which aim to alleviate the financial burden on families. Additionally, he assured students and their parents that the school’s vocational program would complement its mainstream educational offerings. This dual approach will provide students with both academic and technical pathways that align with the needs of the national workforce.

The reopening of the school brings hope and renewed optimism for families, enhancing educational prospects and fostering community development in the Highlands of Navosa.
