The Nadroga football team has earned a place in the 2024 Inter District Championship following a decisive 4-1 win against Tailevu Naitasiri in the Digicel Fiji Premier League held at Lawaqa Park. The Stallions kicked off the match with impressive momentum, scoring three goals in the first half. Semesa Sacere opened the scoring, and Joel Chand extended their lead. Abhishek Ram then converted a penalty to give Nadroga a solid 3-0 advantage.
In the second half, Tailevu Naitasiri came back with vigor, and Sakiusa Saqiri’s goal in the 48th minute seemed to offer a flicker of hope. However, Nadroga quickly shut down any ambitions for a comeback when goalkeeper Sakeo Tageneca scored another penalty, sealing the match at 4-1.
This victory positioned Nadroga with 17 points, five points ahead of both Tailevu Naitasiri and Nasinu, who are battling for survival with 12 points each. As the league nears its conclusion, Nasinu will face Nadroga, while Tailevu Naitasiri will take on Lautoka, making these matches critical for their chances of remaining in the league.
In other matches, Navua achieved a narrow 1-0 victory over Nasinu, with Jared Rongosulia scoring the only goal from the penalty spot after a scoreless first half. Suva also stunned Lautoka with a 1-0 win, thanks to Jo Moses’ goal in the first half. Ba secured a late 2-1 win against Labasa at the Fiji FA Academy Ground, with Faazil Ali netting the winning goal just before the end of the match. Christopher Wasasala had put Labasa ahead early, but Etonia Dogalau equalized before Ba’s late strike.
The final round of the Digicel Premier League is set for this weekend, after which teams will focus on the IDC in Lautoka next month.
