The launch of the newly opened Havana Nightclub and Bar has introduced an exciting addition to the bustling Martintar strip in Nadi, featuring a unique dual nightclub concept over two floors. Owner Richard Du, who acquired the three-storey building last October, has invested a substantial $6 million to transform the space, which now boasts revamped air conditioning and advanced sound systems.

“We have two clubs, one on the top level and one on the middle level, which opened just last week,” Du explained, emphasizing the aim to cater to diverse musical tastes ranging from iTaukei and Hindi to Pacific Island and English music.

In addition to the nightclubs, a kava bar and beer garden is slated to open in July, further enriching the nightlife experience. “Our goal is to create a vibrant atmosphere for clients to relax and enjoy themselves, offering both food and drinks accompanied by live music.” Local bands are expected to perform on weekends, enriching the entertainment offering.

The club operates from 5 PM to 1 AM, enhancing Nadi’s nightlife, which has faced scrutiny due to recent safety incidents in the area. Following a troubling situation where three Australian airline crew members fell victim to theft and sexual assault at a Martintar nightclub, local officials, including Roneel Sami, president of Nadi’s nightclub operators, have called for improved safety measures and a reassessment of nightclub regulations.

Sami emphasized the need for collaboration among nightlife operators, government officials, and stakeholders to create a safer environment, suggesting that extending operating hours could alleviate congestion and improve safety for patrons departing at night. The current closing time at 1 AM often leads to large crowds waiting for taxis, making them more vulnerable to such incidents.

Authorities have acknowledged these safety concerns as a call to action, demonstrating a collective commitment to address the structural issues affecting Nadi’s nightlife while ensuring that the positive developments, like those at the Havana Nightclub, can continue to flourish in a safe environment.

This positive development comes at a crucial time, as it reflects the community’s dedication to revitalizing Nadi’s nightlife while prioritizing safety and enhancing the overall experience for both locals and tourists. The hope is that through these efforts, Nadi will emerge as a vibrant and secure nightlife destination that celebrates its diverse cultural heritage.
