Nadi Women’s Team Dominates Season Opener: A New Era in Fiji Football?

In a stunning display of skill, the Nadi senior women’s football team crushed Tailevu Naitasiri with a score of 10-2 during their inaugural match of the 2025 Women’s Super League at the Fiji Football Association grounds in Vatuwaqa over the weekend. This commanding victory sends a strong message to their competitors as Nadi aims to improve upon last season’s fourth-place finish.

Team manager and assistant coach Aveet Avin Kumar expressed ambitions for the squad to finish in the top two this season, which would secure them a place in the Inter-District Championship. “Our aim is always first place, but ultimately, it’s in God’s hands,” Kumar noted, highlighting the team’s confidence and resolve.

Nadi’s roster has been reinforced by fresh talent from the under-19 league, including three players from the national extended squads of the U16 and U19 teams. Despite the impressive scoreline, Kumar acknowledged that there is still room for improvement. “We’re happy with the scoreline but we’ve identified key areas to improve. Hopefully, by our next match we’ll see those adjustments,” he remarked.

Financial challenges persist, as the team actively seeks sponsorships to enhance player welfare, but the growing interest in women’s football in Nadi is certainly encouraging. “Our players are mostly school and university students, and we appreciate the support from parents and the public,” Kumar added, emphasizing the community’s role in uplifting women’s sports.

As they celebrate a dominating start, the Nadi team is determined to maintain momentum in the Super League, which bodes well for their aspirations this season. The fervent support from the community and the integration of young talent signals optimism for a successful journey ahead in women’s football, inspiring the next generation of athletes in Fiji.
