The Nadi senior women’s football team made a remarkable entrance into the 2025 Women’s Super League by overwhelming Tailevu Naitasiri with a resounding 10-2 victory at the Fiji Football Association grounds in Vatuwaqa over the weekend. This powerful performance not only showcases their skill but also sends a clear message to rival teams as Nadi sets its sights on surpassing last season’s fourth-place finish.
Team manager and assistant coach Aveet Avin Kumar shared his aspirations for the squad, aiming for a top-two position this season, which would qualify them for the Inter-District Championship. “Our aim is always first place, but ultimately, it’s in God’s hands,” Kumar remarked, reflecting the team’s confidence and determination.
Nadi has welcomed new talent from the under-19 league, adding three players from the national extended squads for the U16 and U19 teams. Despite the impressive win, Kumar emphasized that there are still areas for improvement. “While we’re happy with the scoreline, we have identified key areas to enhance. Hopefully, by our next match we’ll see those adjustments,” he said.
Financial constraints remain a challenge as the team seeks sponsorships to boost player welfare, yet the rising interest in women’s football within the Nadi community is a silver lining. “Most of our players are school and university students, and we are grateful for the support from parents and the public,” Kumar added, highlighting the community’s integral role in promoting women’s sports.
With a commanding start to the Super League, the Nadi team is poised to sustain their momentum, signaling optimism for achieving their goals this season. The ongoing community support and the integration of young talent not only pave the way for the team’s aspirations but also inspire the next generation of athletes in Fiji, encouraging them to pursue their dreams in sports. This victory could mark the beginning of an exciting chapter for women’s football in the region.
