Motorists in Nadi should prepare for potential traffic disruptions on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, as the Fiji Police Force will be managing escort duties for the visiting U.S. Secretary of Defense, Mr. Lloyd Austin.
While there will be no complete road closures, drivers are encouraged to yield to police escorts during the movements of the delegation.
On Friday, traffic management will be in effect from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., specifically along the route from Nadi Airport to Votualevu and the Blackrock Camp, to ensure an orderly escort. Following this, traffic control measures will be implemented on the Votualevu-to-Denarau route after 5:00 p.m.
On Saturday, similar traffic management operations will start at 9:00 a.m., facilitating the delegation’s journey from Denarau back to Nadi International Airport.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kasiano Vusonilawe, who serves as the Director of Operations for the Fiji Police Force, reassured the public that efforts will be taken to minimize any inconveniences. He also urged motorists to cooperate in order to ensure the safety and efficiency of the escort operations.
This visit highlights the strong ties between the United States and Fiji, underscoring the importance of diplomatic relations in the region. By accommodating these necessary traffic measures, the local community demonstrates its commitment to supporting such international engagements, fostering goodwill, and enhancing global partnerships.
In summary, while there may be traffic delays during the visit of the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the local authorities are taking measures to ensure smooth transit, and the event itself is a positive reflection of Fiji’s international relations.
