Police are currently investigating a tragic road incident in Nadi that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old student early yesterday morning after he was struck by a vehicle. Reports indicate that the victim, who had been reportedly intoxicated, was sleeping along the roadside when a passing vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old man, hit him.

Emergency services quickly transported the teenager to Nadi Hospital; however, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. In light of this incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who oversees traffic control for the Fiji Police Force, is emphasizing the importance of road safety, particularly for young individuals. He urged those under the influence of alcohol to refrain from walking near busy roads, highlighting the risks such behavior poses not only to themselves but also to other road users.

The driver involved in the incident remains in police custody as the investigation continues. This tragic situation serves as a harsh reminder of the potential dangers of mixing alcohol consumption with activities such as walking along roadways.
