Nadi Sangam Triumphs in Dramatic Sangam World Cup Final

NADI Sangam has claimed victory in the Sangam World Cup, defeating the 2014 champions, Lautoka Sangam, with a score of 3-2 in an electrifying final held at Churchill Park on Sunday. The match showcased an impressive performance from Lautoka’s Samuela Gavo Prakash, who was named the player of the match after netting a remarkable hat-trick.

Nadi earned their place in the final after a close 2-1 win against Suva, while Lautoka secured their spot by defeating NZ Middlemore 1-0 in the semifinals. The final was a thrilling affair, marked by a goalless first half. In the early moments of the second half, both teams found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1. Lautoka then surged ahead with another goal, but Nadi responded swiftly, equalizing once more. The match came to a dramatic conclusion when Gavo scored the decisive goal that sealed Nadi’s triumph.

Interestingly, the match featured sibling rivalries on both sides, as brothers Immanuel Moses Prakash and Samuela Gavo Prakash played for Nadi, while their sibling Simon Junior Prakash took the field for Lautoka. The Prakash brothers’ father, Simon Anand Prakash, has a notable history, having represented Lautoka from 1988 to 1998, known for his defensive skills with both the district and Lautoka Sangam teams. Lautoka was also represented by brothers Raj, Shiva, and James Pillay, adding to the familial ties present in the match.

This victory stands as a significant achievement for Nadi Sangam, highlighting their resilience and capacity to shine in high-pressure situations. As they celebrate their triumph, hopes remain high for their future performances in upcoming tournaments. This win not only symbolizes a championship title but also continues the legacy of local football in the region, inspiring the next generation of players.
