Fiji Airports Ltd recently held a commissioning ceremony for several infrastructure development projects at its terminal facilities, including the addition of a new Gate 8 at Nadi International Airport.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific, supported by the Japanese government, are providing financial assistance for these projects.
“Tourism is a crucial component of the Fijian economy. This grant from the government of Japan is instrumental in enhancing Nadi International Airport’s capacity and improving tourism processes as visitor numbers continue to grow,” stated Aaron Batten, regional director of ADB’s Pacific Subregional office.
The new Gate 8 will feature inclusive seating areas throughout the terminal and universally accessible washrooms, including a family restroom, water fountains, electronic charging stations, crowd control barriers, and additional baggage trolleys.
These enhancements aim to alleviate passenger congestion at the departure gate, manage and direct the flow of people, and improve airport services.
“Fiji is experiencing unprecedented visitor arrivals, and this project will enhance efficiency and help ensure that travelers continue to choose Fiji as their destination,” remarked Mesake Nawari, CEO of Fiji Airports.
