Nadi hosts PNG-Fiji Business Forum 2025 as chamber leaders chart deeper collaboration

On the sidelines of the PNG-Fiji Business Forum 2025 in Nadi, the President of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Lawrence Kumar, met with Rio Fiocco, President of the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PMCCI), to cement a plan for more active cooperation between their networks.

The Forum, hosted by the Papua New Guinea Investment Promotion Authority, gathered a 25-member PNG delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso and featuring the Minister for Commerce and Industry Win Bakri Daki alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica, among others. A NCCI statement noted that both chamber presidents spoke about exploring further business opportunities for their members.

The PNG delegation reflected a cross-section of government and private sector interest, with participants from key sectors such as fast-moving consumer goods, manufacturing and construction, food and agriculture, finance and investment, tourism and infrastructure, retail and wholesale, and textile and clothing. The forum provided a direct platform to discuss synergies, share insights, and outline concrete steps toward mutually beneficial partnerships.

The Nalagi Hotel in Nadi hosted the event on Thursday, August 21, 2025. This gathering reinforces a broader push to strengthen Fiji-PNG economic ties, a trend seen in recent regional activity that includes revived business councils, increased travel and dialogue between officials and business leaders, and ongoing discussions about expanding cross-border opportunities.

What this could mean for Fiji and PNG
– Cross-border investment and trade activity are likely to rise as more partnerships move from planning to implementation.
– Fijian companies expanding into PNG and PNG firms entering Fiji could generate jobs and skills development across sectors such as health, education, agriculture, tourism, and ICT.
– Deeper financial-market cooperation may broaden access to capital and support regional development projects, contributing to greater economic resilience in the Pacific.

Summary note for readers
The NCCI-PMCCI engagement at the Nadi forum reflects a practical, results-oriented phase in Fiji-PNG relations, with a clear focus on turning conversations into concrete opportunities. The momentum aligns with a broader regional trend toward deeper cooperation, stronger market access, and shared prosperity across Pacific nations.

Additional context for readers
Keep an eye on announcements from ongoing bilateral engagements, including potential strategic partnerships, joint investment opportunities identified during the forum, and any discussions about joint listing or cross-border market initiatives that could enhance regional investment flows. The renewed emphasis on dialogue and collaboration suggests a hopeful path toward tangible growth for both Fiji and PNG.
