Nadi Hospital is set to initiate important renovation work on its children’s ward, with proposals already sent to key stakeholders. Israr Khan, the chairman of the hospital’s board of visitors, noted that several potential sponsors have expressed interest in funding the project, although he has chosen not to disclose their names for the time being.
The children’s ward has remained neglected for an extended period, and Khan emphasized the urgency for a comprehensive update. “It’s time to completely renovate it. All of this hinges on sponsors and donors stepping up to help us out,” he stated. If the necessary financial support materializes, the renovation could be organized within a month, enabling work to commence quickly.
Khan outlined two available avenues for the board to consider: engaging their own contractor to conduct the renovations or collaborating with donors to select a contractor while they cover the costs. The projected budget for this renovation is $60,000, which aims to increase the ward’s capacity from 12 to 20 children. Due to space constraints, each child will still be allowed one parent or relative during normal hours.
In a related context, previous enhancements at Nadi Hospital, such as the recent renovation of the women’s washroom funded by Radisson Blu Resort, have demonstrated significant community support towards healthcare improvements. This initiative, which cost $45,000, serves as a testament to the positive impact that corporate partnerships can have on public health.
The upcoming renovation of the children’s ward signifies a hopeful step towards better healthcare services for the community. Such projects highlight the critical role of collaborative efforts to uplift healthcare facilities, ultimately fostering a healthier environment for children and their families in Nadi.
