Police are currently investigating a tragic traffic accident in Nadi that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old student early yesterday morning. Reports indicate that the young man was reportedly intoxicated and found sleeping on the roadside when he was struck by a vehicle operated by a 43-year-old driver.
Emergency services quickly transported the victim to Nadi Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
In light of this incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic Control, has called for young individuals to take greater responsibility for their safety, particularly when it comes to alcohol consumption. He emphasized the serious risks associated with being on busy roads while under the influence, which endangers not only the individuals in question but also drivers and other road users.
