The Nadi Football Association is in need of approximately $17,000 to prepare for the upcoming 2024 FMF Inter-District Championship, scheduled to take place at Churchill Park in Lautoka next week. Lawrence Kumar, an executive member of the Nadi FA board, made this announcement during a fundraising event held at Sylvia Hall in Malolo, Nadi, where a large turnout of fans showed their support last Saturday night.
Kumar expressed his satisfaction with the event, noting, “The association requires $17,000 for the campaign, and we need more sponsors to come on board as we aim to break the 22-year winless streak at the IDC.” He highlighted the team’s promising performance at the Battle of the Giants (B.O.G) tournament, where they reached the finals, and remarked that the team’s morale is high as they prepare to compete for the cup in the upcoming tournament.
Nadi FA president Mohin Rafiq shared that former Fiji Under-20 captain Abdulla Aiyaz, who joined the team last week from Sydney, has quickly become an integral part of the squad. Aiyaz is expected to work alongside experienced striker Ali Naseri, who is set to join the team soon as his travel documents are being finalized. Rafiq also showed appreciation for head coach Raj Dayal, noting the progress the team has made with increased training sessions.
In a recent friendly match, the Green Machine drew 1-1 against Navua at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Rafiq emphasized the importance of fan engagement, stating, “It was free for all attendees and a great opportunity for our fans to come out and support the team.”
The ticket prices for the IDC have been structured to ensure accessibility for fans of all ages. Grandstand tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $15 for children under 10 years old. Pavilion B tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for children under 10. Fans seated in the Drua stands will pay $15 for adults and $8 for children under 10, while embankment tickets are available at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.
