Nadi Crime Drop Prompts Push for More Officers and a New Station

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has reported a notable transformation in the crime rate in Nadi, highlighting a significant decrease in resident complaints. Recent findings indicate an encouraging trend in the criminal landscape, which the Commissioner will formally present later this week, showcasing a substantial improvement not just in Nadi but across the entire nation.

Despite this positive development, Commissioner Tudravu has acknowledged the need for increased police personnel in Nadi, which currently has just over 100 officers. This number is deemed inadequate given the rise in population, as more individuals continue to move into the area. He emphasized the community’s role in maintaining law and order, indicating that the police cannot be present at all times and urging citizens to partner with law enforcement to foster safety.

Furthermore, Tudravu pointed out that the police headquarters had been inundated with service complaints in the past. However, he noted that such complaints have drastically dropped, reflecting improved satisfaction among the community. He expressed optimism that the anticipated opening of a new police station in Nadi will enhance service delivery and strengthen community ties.

This announcement aligns with a broader trend where initiatives across various police divisions aim to bolster public safety. Overall, these proactive measures undertaken by Commissioner Tudravu signal a path toward a safer and more engaged community, benefiting both residents and the region’s thriving tourism sector. The improvements in Nadi’s policing are a hopeful indication of a collaborative future between law enforcement and the community, promoting a secure environment for all.
