The Nadi Barracuda Swim Club showcased its talent at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, which kicked off at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva, yesterday.

The club faced challenging weather conditions, a stark contrast to the favorable, sunny weather typical of their home in the West. However, despite these hurdles, club president Ben Rova reported that the swimming events proceeded without a hitch, though he acknowledged the tough conditions his athletes were up against.

“It’s been great. I know the weather wasn’t too good earlier this morning, but it’s just wonderful to be back poolside and see all the different clubs participating today,” Rova said. He expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout of parents and supporters and thanked the officials for their efficient management of the competition.

“There has been great support from families, and while we have stepped back from Fiji Swimming, it’s encouraging to see the new officials effectively running the federation and today’s nationals,” he added.

Rova noted that the club had received reports of its swimmers achieving personal best times and mentioned that the level of competition this year was different from previous years. “The competition has spread out; normally we would have grand prix events every second week, but I know some swimmers are currently busy with exams and unable to attend.”

The competition is set to conclude today.
