The Nadi Barracuda Swim Club showcased their skills in the 25-metre pool during the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva, which began yesterday.

The club arrived at the competition facing tough weather conditions, a sharp contrast to the clear skies and high temperatures they typically enjoy in the West.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, club president Ben Rova reported that the swimming events unfolded smoothly while recognizing the adverse conditions faced by the swimmers.

“It’s been great; I know the weather wasn’t too good earlier this morning, but it’s just great to be back at the poolside and seeing all the different clubs here today,” Rova stated.

He expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout of parents and supporters and thanked the officials for their management of the event.

“There has been great support from the families and, although we have stepped back from Fiji Swimming, it’s good to see the new officials running the federation and today’s nationals,” he added.

Rova highlighted that the club had been receiving reports of swimmers achieving personal bests and noted a difference in the level of competition this year compared to previous years.

“The competition this year is more spread out; usually, we would have a grand prix every two weeks or so, but I know there are swimmers who are currently taking exams and are not here,” he mentioned.

The competition is set to conclude today.
