The Nadi Barracuda Swim Club competed vigorously in the 25-metre pool at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, which kicked off at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva, yesterday.
The club faced challenging weather conditions that contrasted sharply with the clear skies and high temperatures they are accustomed to in the West.
Despite these difficulties, club president Ben Rova reported that the swimming events proceeded smoothly, while also recognizing the tough conditions his athletes were enduring.
“It’s been great. I know the weather wasn’t ideal this morning, but it’s just great to be back at the poolside and see all the different clubs here today,” Rova stated.
He expressed appreciation for the strong turnout from parents and supporters and thanked the officials for managing the competition effectively.
“There has been great support from families, and although we have stepped back from Fiji Swimming, it’s encouraging to see the new officials running the federation and today’s nationals,” he remarked.
Rova noted that the club’s swimmers were achieving personal bests, but he also observed that this year’s competition differed from previous years.
“The competition this year has been more spread out. Normally, we would have grand prix events every other week, but I know some swimmers are currently taking exams and are not here,” he said.
The competition is set to conclude today.
