The Nadi Barracuda Swim Club made a splash at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, which commenced at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva, yesterday. The club faced challenging weather conditions that differed sharply from the clear skies and intense heat typically experienced back home in the West.

Despite these weather challenges, club president Ben Rova reported that the swimming events proceeded without major issues, acknowledging the tough conditions his members competed under. “It’s been great; I know the weather wasn’t too good this morning, but it’s wonderful to be back at the poolside seeing all the different clubs today,” Rova stated.

He expressed his appreciation for the turnout of parents and supporters, thanking the officials for their organization of the competition. “There has been great support from families, and while we have stepped back from Fiji Swimming, it’s reassuring to see the new officials managing the federation and today’s nationals,” he added.

Rova also highlighted that the club’s swimmers were achieving personal bests, commenting on the distinct nature of this year’s competition compared to previous years. “The competition this year has spread out; we usually have grand prix events every second week or so, but I know some swimmers are currently sitting exams and could not attend,” he noted.

The competition is set to conclude today.
