The Nadi Barracuda Swim Club made a splash at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals, which kicked off at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay, Suva. Despite facing challenging weather conditions that diverged from the sunny and warm climate they are accustomed to in the West, the club was ready for competition.
Club president Ben Rova reported that the swimming events unfolded smoothly, despite the tough conditions the athletes were contending with. He expressed his enthusiasm about being at the poolside, noting, “It’s been great; I know the weather wasn’t too good earlier this morning, but it’s just great to see all the different clubs here today.”
Rova highlighted the impressive turnout by parents and supporters, thanking the officials for their effective management of the event. He remarked, “There has been great support from the families, and while we have stepped down from Fiji Swimming, it’s good to see the new officials running the federation and today’s nationals.”
He acknowledged that his club’s swimmers were achieving personal bests, but also pointed out that the competitive landscape has changed this year compared to previous years. “The competition this year has spread out. Normally, we would have grand prix events every second week, but I know some swimmers are currently taking exams and are not here,” he said.
The competition is set to conclude today.
