Fiji Airports Ltd recently held a commissioning ceremony for several infrastructure development projects at its terminals, including the construction of a new Gate 8 at Nadi International Airport. Funding for these initiatives is being provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific, backed by the Japanese government.
“Tourism is a vital component of the Fijian economy. The grant from the Japanese government is helping to enhance the capacity of Nadi International Airport and improve tourism processes as visitor numbers continue to grow,” stated Aaron Batten, regional director of ADB’s Pacific Subregional office.
The new Gate 8 at Nadi Airport will include universally accessible seating areas throughout the terminal, accessible restrooms with a designated family washroom, a water fountain, electronic charging stations, crowd control barriers, and more baggage trolleys. These facilities are designed to alleviate passenger congestion at the departure gate, manage foot traffic, and improve overall services at the airport.
“Fiji is experiencing record visitor arrivals, and this project will enhance efficiency and encourage travelers to return to Fiji,” commented Mesake Nawari, CEO of Fiji Airports.
