Fiji Airways has issued a travel advisory warning passengers of possible disruptions to early morning arrivals at Nadi International Airport as essential runway maintenance begins overnight.

The airline said Fiji Airports Limited will carry out works between midnight and 5am each night starting tonight, March 19, with the programme scheduled to continue through to June 6. Flights scheduled to arrive during those hours — particularly international services from Singapore, Hong Kong, Honolulu and Narita — may be affected, the advisory said. Fiji Airways described the notice as precautionary, noting that disruptions have not been confirmed and that any necessary changes to arrival times would be communicated directly to affected passengers.

The overnight maintenance window means services that normally touch down in the pre-dawn hours could see adjusted arrival slots or minor re-timings while teams complete the works. Fiji Airways said it will monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary, and reiterated that passengers on impacted services will be contacted by the airline if changes to their itineraries are required.

The advisory is the latest development affecting operations at Fiji’s main international gateway. In January, heavy thunderstorms and lightning disrupted runway edge lighting at Nadi, forcing several inbound flights to divert temporarily while technical teams repaired lighting systems. That incident highlighted the potential for operational interruptions at the airport and is likely a factor in the precautionary nature of the current advisory.

Travel industry sources say the overnight maintenance is intended to minimise disruption to daytime operations and passenger movements, but the early-morning timing overlaps with the arrival windows of several long-haul services that historically touch down between midnight and dawn. Passengers holding tickets on the routes named in Fiji Airways’ advisory should expect direct communication from the carrier if their flight is affected and may also wish to check flight status through the airline’s official channels.

Fiji Airports Limited, which is overseeing the runway programme, has not released detail on the scope of the maintenance in the airline’s advisory. The works are billed as “essential,” indicating they are scheduled maintenance activities rather than emergency repairs. The March 19–June 6 schedule suggests a phased series of overnight tasks designed to preserve runway safety and integrity while limiting daytime disruption.

This advisory will remain relevant for travellers and tour operators with bookings into Nadi over the coming weeks. With peak travel periods and long-haul links from the Asia-Pacific and North America, airlines and airport authorities typically coordinate such works to balance operational needs and safety requirements; the precautionary notice from Fiji Airways signals close monitoring and a readiness to notify passengers should adjustments become necessary.
