Nadi International Airport has become a significant attraction for investments, commerce, talent, and visitors. According to Mesake Nawari, CEO of Fiji Airports Ltd, the airport has experienced a robust recovery within the aviation sector, with an increase in passenger traffic at both the international entry point and domestic outer stations during this period.
Nawari made these remarks at a recent commissioning event for several projects undertaken by Fiji Airports, which are part of the ‘Enhancing COVID-19 Preparedness for Tourism Recovery Project.’ This initiative is supported by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific through the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The newly completed enhancements include a new boarding gate 8 exit, updated washroom facilities in the international departure lounge, and the acquisition of 500 crowd control barriers and 500 baggage trolleys.
“As the leading airport in the Pacific region for international travel recovery, Nadi saw 2,635,766 international passenger movements in 2023, with 1,339,790 international passengers in the first half of 2024,” Mr. Nawari noted.
He emphasized the crucial role Fiji Airports plays in the economy, stating, “Our vision is to be a vital player in regional aviation.” He added, “The growth and success of Fiji Airports have been integral to Fiji’s emergence as a leader in aviation and a hub for tourism.”
Nawari concluded by highlighting the accomplishments of Fiji Airports, remarking that the projects undertaken will transform public perceptions of air travel and unlock new business opportunities.
