Nadi Airport: The Pacific’s Rising Star in Aviation and Tourism

Nadi International Airport is becoming increasingly attractive for investments, commerce, talent, and visitors. According to Mesake Nawari, CEO of Fiji Airports Ltd, the airport has demonstrated a strong recovery in the aviation sector, with a consistent increase in passenger traffic at both the international terminal and domestic routes.

Nawari made these remarks during a commissioning event for several projects undertaken by Fiji Airports last week. These initiatives are part of the ‘Enhancing COVID-19 Preparedness for Tourism Recovery Project,’ funded by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific through the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Recent upgrades at the airport include a new boarding gate 8 exit, enhanced washroom facilities at the international departure lounge, and the acquisition of 500 crowd control barriers along with 500 baggage trolleys.

“As the leading airport in the Pacific region for international travel recovery, Nadi recorded 2,635,766 international passenger movements in 2023, with 1,339,790 of those in the first half of 2024,” Nawari reported.

He emphasized that Fiji Airports is a crucial component of the national economy, instrumental in fostering its vision as a key player in regional aviation. “The growth and success of Fiji Airports are at the core of our country’s emergence as a leader in aviation and a central hub for tourism,” he said.

Nawari also noted that the airport’s commitment to excellence through these projects will reshape perceptions of air travel and unlock new business opportunities for the community.
