Nadi International Airport has become a significant attraction for investments, business, talent, and visitors. According to Fiji Airports Ltd CEO Mesake Nawari, the airport has demonstrated a robust recovery in the aviation sector, with consistent growth in passenger traffic both at the international port and domestic locations.
During a recent commissioning event for several projects initiated by Fiji Airports, Nawari highlighted the importance of these developments, which are part of the ‘Enhancing COVID-19 Preparedness for Tourism Recovery Project,’ funded by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific through the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The newly completed enhancements include a new exit at boarding gate 8, restroom facilities in the international departure lounge, and the acquisition of 500 crowd control barriers and 500 baggage trolleys.
Nawari reported that Nadi Airport, which is leading the Pacific region in the recovery of international travel, recorded 2,635,766 international passenger movements in 2023 and 1,339,790 in the first half of 2024. He emphasized the airport’s critical role in supporting Fiji’s economy and its ambition to be a key player in regional aviation.
He stated, “The growth and success of Fiji Airports have been central to Fiji’s emergence as a leader in aviation and tourism.” By continually raising standards of excellence, these airport projects are expected to transform perceptions about air travel and business opportunities in the region.
