Nadi International Airport has resumed operations, allowing flights to land once again after a temporary closure. The airport had experienced a failure of runway lighting, which resulted in widespread flight diversions and disruptions.
Flight FJ910 arriving from Sydney was diverted to Apia due to the outage. Fiji Airways confirmed that the lighting failure necessitated the closure of the airport to both incoming and outgoing flights. This closure impacted numerous international and domestic flights, with some being redirected to alternative airports, including Nausori and Apia.
In addition to diversions, the disruption led to the cancellation of tonight’s FJ915 flight from Nadi to Sydney. Fiji Airways indicated that significant delays and further disruptions were anticipated throughout the evening and into the night.
The airline emphasized that safety is their utmost priority and that the diversions were necessary to adhere to aviation safety standards. It noted that these incidents were completely beyond their control. Fiji Airways is collaborating closely with Fiji Airports Limited and other airport authorities to manage the situation and assist affected passengers.
Passengers facing disruptions are being contacted directly with updates and support. Fiji Airways expressed gratitude to its customers for their understanding and patience during this challenging situation. Despite this disruption, the swift response from the airline and airport authorities highlights their commitment to ensuring passenger safety and operational efficiency moving forward.
