Nadi International Airport is emerging as a key hub for investments, commerce, talent, and visitors. According to Mesake Nawari, CEO of Fiji Airports Ltd., the airport has demonstrated strong recovery within the aviation sector, with both international passenger traffic and domestic travel steadily increasing during this period.
Mr. Nawari shared these remarks during the recent commissioning of several projects undertaken by Fiji Airports, part of the ‘Enhancing COVID-19 Preparedness for Tourism Recovery Project’. This initiative is supported by the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific through the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Newly completed facilities include a new boarding gate 8 exit, upgraded washroom facilities at the international departure lounge, the procurement of 500 crowd control barriers, and 500 baggage trolleys.
Nadi Airport, which is leading the Pacific region in the recovery of international travel, recorded 2,635,766 international passenger movements in 2023 and 1,339,790 international passengers in the first half of 2024, according to Mr. Nawari.
He emphasized the importance of Fiji Airports as a fundamental component of the economy, stating it plays a crucial role in realizing the vision of becoming a significant player in regional aviation. He noted, “The growth and success of Fiji Airports have been central to Fiji’s emergence as an aviation leader and tourism hub.”
Mr. Nawari added that their achievements highlight Fiji Airports’ commitment to redefining standards of excellence, noting that these projects will transform perceptions of air travel and business opportunities in the region.
