The Dee Cees Nadera Panthers aim to cultivate their players’ skills to help them obtain rugby league contracts with international clubs. This was highlighted by Panthers manager Rodney Nair in an interview with SUNsports.
Nair stated, “We don’t hold on to our players as soon as they find employment or join a rugby league club overseas.” He noted that this season features a new roster of players.
The team has adjusted its strategies this year, as many players typically play rugby union, posing certain challenges. Nair emphasized the difficulties faced by coach Vula Dakuitoga in assembling and developing the team.
“Dakuitoga is one of Fiji’s most accomplished rugby league coaches,” Nair added. Despite these hurdles, the Panthers advanced to the Vodafone Cup national quarterfinals, where they will compete against the newcomers, Waitaci Titans.
“Our objective is to perform at our best and reclaim our lost title. We have confidence in our capabilities, given the intensity of the situation,” Nair stated. He expressed optimism among the players for their match against the Titans at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
“The coach believes in the players, as their commitment to diet and training has been commendable. We encourage Nadera rugby league fans to come out and support the Panthers as they aim to make history in the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup.”
Nair mentioned that four players have departed the club to join the Fiji Police Force and Fiji Navy.
