Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu has put forward former Parliament Deputy Speaker Ruveni Nadalo as his nominee for the role of Speaker. Seruiratu highlighted Nadalo’s significant leadership qualities, extensive knowledge of parliamentary procedures, and his unwavering commitment to democracy and inclusivity.
Mr. Seruiratu noted that Nadalo, who is the son of the late Isikeli Nadalo, had his passion for politics instilled at an early age, thanks in part to his father’s long and impactful tenure with the National Federation Party. Isikeli Nadalo was known for advocating multiracial representation and addressing regional issues, which greatly shaped Ruveni’s leadership approach.
Seruiratu praised Nadalo’s previous experience as deputy speaker, where he managed parliamentary affairs with dignity, facilitated fair debates, and championed the use of iTaukei and other languages within Parliament, enhancing inclusivity and effective communication.
According to Mr. Seruiratu, Nadalo’s deep understanding of parliamentary procedures, his ability to oversee legislation, and his skill in conducting unbiased debates render him an outstanding candidate for the Speaker position. He expressed confidence that Nadalo’s leadership would elevate the Parliament of Fiji.
This nomination reflects a commitment to progressive leadership, emphasizing the importance of representation and effective governance in Fiji’s political landscape. With Nadalo at the helm, there is potential for a more inclusive and dynamic parliamentary environment that could benefit the broader community.
