Fiji 7s representative Waisea Nacuqu has officially withdrawn from the Mike Friday Select team ahead of the much-anticipated McDonalds Coral Coast Fiji 7s. This decision follows formal communication from the Human Resources Director of the Fiji Police, indicating that, as a serving and paid member of the Fiji Police, Nacuqu is required to return to his official duties and remain available to the Police team.
The tournament organizers have expressed their understanding and full respect for the position of the Fiji Police, acknowledging that Nacuqu’s professional commitments must take priority.
Nacuqu’s decision marks him as the second Police player to step back from Friday’s side, following Ilikimi Torosi’s earlier withdrawal. In a proactive response, team management has announced that Sairuisi Vunisa will join the squad as a replacement. Vunisa showcases remarkable talent, having been part of the 2024 Ambassador All Star Team, a recognition attributed to his outstanding performances. He caught the attention of selectors for his explosive flair and natural power, qualities that resonate with the legacy of former Fiji rugby star Rupeni Caucaunibuca.
The Coral Coast 7s tournament is set to commence next Thursday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, with matches available to watch live and exclusively on FBC Sports, promising an exciting display of rugby action for fans. This tournament not only showcases local talents but also highlights the importance of maintaining professional responsibilities, contributing to the integrity of both sports and community service.
