The Education, Heritage and Arts Minister, Aseri Radrodro, has expressed significant concern regarding an unfinished building at Nabua Secondary School, highlighting the potential Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risks it poses. This situation comes to light following a recent fire incident at John Wesley College, prompting the Minister to investigate similar situations at other schools across Fiji.

The construction of the incomplete building was halted due to changes in management. However, Minister Radrodro is committed to collaborating with the school’s board and the new management to expedite the completion of the project. He mentioned that the previous management left several issues unresolved, which the new team must address. They are encouraged to formally request assistance from the Ministry of Education to facilitate the timely conclusion of these construction issues.

Regarding John Wesley College, the Minister reassured that examinations will proceed as scheduled. The Head of School has confirmed that operations would continue normally, despite the building issues. Adjustments to internal examinations may be made based on further discussions with the school’s administration.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining safe and completed educational facilities. The proactive approach being taken by the Ministry is commendable as it aims to ensure the safety of students and staff while upholding educational standards across the nation. With concerted efforts from all parties involved, the hope is that these construction challenges will be swiftly resolved, ultimately creating a better learning environment for students.
