The Minister for Education, Heritage, and Arts, Aseri Radrodro, has expressed serious concern over an incomplete building at Nabua Secondary School, emphasizing that this poses significant occupational health and safety (OHS) risks. This issue has become more pressing following a recent fire at John Wesley College, prompting the Minister to address similar challenges faced by other schools in Fiji.

The completion of the building was stalled due to a change in management, but the Ministry plans to collaborate with the school board and the new management to expedite construction. Radrodro stated, “We have received initial information indicating that issues regarding the building constructed by the previous management have resulted in its incomplete state. We are actively pursuing solutions with the new management to ensure its completion. Should they require government assistance, they can formally request it through the Ministry of Education.”

Despite the ongoing concerns, the Minister reassured that examinations at John Wesley College will proceed as scheduled. He noted that the school administration has confirmed normal operations will continue, with adjustments made to internal examinations as needed after discussions with the school head.

This commitment to addressing construction issues and ensuring safety highlights the Ministry’s proactive approach to educational infrastructure, aiming to create a safer environment for students and staff.

It’s encouraging to see the government taking steps to address these important concerns, as quick action can pave the way for improved facilities and a safer learning environment for students across Fiji.
