The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has announced that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team conducted a visit to the school on November 4, anticipating the report to be released the following day. However, despite several follow-ups, there has been no action taken by the Ministry regarding this issue.
In addition, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro commented on the appalling conditions at the school, where students face hazardous environments due to unfinished and poorly maintained buildings. Radrodro noted that the infrastructure was left incomplete under previous management and that efforts are now being coordinated with the new management to expedite its completion. He encouraged the school to officially request government support through the Ministry of Education if needed.
The worries surrounding the deteriorating state of the school are significant, as many classrooms exhibit severe structural damage, including rusted roofs and large gaps in windows where panes are missing. These unsafe conditions not only jeopardize the safety of over 900 students but could also create potential escape routes in emergencies.
This situation exemplifies a broader problem affecting public education infrastructure in urban areas, underscoring the urgent need for attention and resources.
While the current state may seem concerning, it also highlights the opportunity for the government and local authorities to collaborate effectively to improve educational facilities and ensure the safety and well-being of students. The efforts underway can pave the way for a brighter future for the students of Nabua Primary School.
