The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team that visited the school on November 4 was expected to deliver the report the following day, but despite repeated inquiries, there has been no follow-through from the Ministry.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro expressed concern regarding the school’s deteriorating infrastructure, pointing out that students are currently being exposed to unsafe conditions due to incomplete and poorly kept facilities. “Based on the initial findings, the building, which was constructed under previous management, has been left unfinished,” Mr. Radrodro noted. He added that efforts are underway with the new management to explore the best approach to complete the structure.

The school administration has been urged to formally request government assistance through the Ministry of Education if they require support. Current circumstances reveal extensive structural damage across various classrooms, including rusted roofs and significant window gaps where glass panes are missing. These hazardous conditions not only endanger student safety but could also inadvertently provide escape paths for children.

The challenges at Nabua Primary School affect over 900 students and bring attention to a larger issue regarding the declining state of public educational infrastructure in urban communities.

This situation highlights the urgent need for improved accountability and support for educational facilities to ensure the safety and well-being of students. It remains hopeful that with the involvement of the new management and government initiatives, there will be a positive turnaround for the school and its students in the near future.

Summary: The ongoing issues at Nabua Primary School, including an incomplete OHS report and deteriorating building conditions, have prompted concerns from ministers regarding student safety and the state of public education infrastructure. Efforts are being made to address the situation, and there is hope for positive change moving forward.
