The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team conducted an inspection at the school on November 4, with the expectation of receiving the report the following day. However, despite repeated inquiries, the Ministry has not yet acted on the issue.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has also raised concerns about the school’s worsening infrastructure, which exposes students to hazards due to incomplete and poorly maintained buildings. Mr. Radrodro noted that the existing structure, built under previous management, remains unfinished, and efforts are ongoing with new management to determine the best plan for its completion.

He urged the school to formally request Government support through the Ministry of Education if needed. The report highlights severe structural problems affecting many classrooms, including significant rusting roofs and missing window panes, which can endanger student safety and create potential hazards.

The challenging situation at Nabua Primary School affects over 900 students and underscores wider issues regarding the declining conditions of public education facilities in urban areas.

This situation, while concerning, presents an opportunity for the government and education authorities to prioritize investments in school infrastructure. Improving the safety and quality of educational environments can lead to better learning outcomes and enhance student well-being. Stakeholder engagement, including community support and governmental initiatives, could foster a transformative change in the condition of public schools across the region.

Summary: The OHS report for Nabua Primary School remains incomplete, raising concerns about the school’s unsafe environment affecting over 900 students. Education officials are working towards solutions with new management, highlighting a larger issue of declining public school infrastructure in urban areas.
