The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still outstanding. A team conducted a visit to the school on November 4, with the report anticipated to be delivered the following day. However, despite numerous follow-ups, the Ministry has not yet acted on this issue.
Addressing the situation, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro emphasized the urgent need to rectify the poor conditions at the school, where students currently face hazardous environments due to incomplete and poorly maintained buildings. Mr. Radrodro noted that the structure, which was started under previous management, remains unfinished. He mentioned that efforts are underway with the new management to find the best solution to complete the building.
To facilitate improvements, he advised the school to officially request assistance from the Government through the Ministry of Education. Concerns are escalating regarding significant structural damage impacting most classrooms, including rusted roofs and large gaps in windows where panes are missing. These unsafe conditions not only threaten student safety but also pose potential risks for students in emergency situations.
The situation at Nabua Primary School affects over 900 students and underscores a critical issue regarding the declining state of public education infrastructure in urban areas.
In light of these challenges, it is encouraging to see the involvement of government ministers who are committed to addressing the needs of Nabua Primary School. With proactive measures being taken to engage with new management, there remains hope for a positive resolution that prioritizes the safety and well-being of the students. By working together, the community and government can transform the current situation into an opportunity for improvement and growth in the educational infrastructure.
