The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has revealed that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team visited the school on November 4, and the report was anticipated the following day. However, despite numerous follow-ups, the Ministry has not yet acted on the situation.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro also spoke about the alarming conditions at the school, where students face risks due to partially completed and poorly maintained facilities. “From the initial information we received, the building constructed under previous management was left unfinished,” Mr. Radrodro noted. He emphasized that they are collaborating with the new management to determine the best approach to completing the construction.

The school is urged to formally request assistance from the Government through the Ministry of Education if necessary. Concerns are escalating due to significant structural damage affecting many classrooms, such as rusted roofs and large gaps in windows where panes are missing. These hazardous conditions not only jeopardize student safety but also create potential escape routes for children.

The situation at Nabua Primary School, which serves over 900 students, underscores a larger issue: the declining quality of public education infrastructure in urban settings.

Hopeful perspectives can emerge from this situation, as the Ministry of Education is now aware of the issues and is actively seeking solutions in partnership with the school’s new management. Addressing these safety concerns could lead to a much-needed improvement in the educational environment for the students.
